QuestionMy daughter all of a sudden in Dec. had extreme pain in her chest, having trouble breathing, yellow/pale, wouldn't talk, disoriented while practicing basketball. She is 13. We have had EKG's, CT, EEG, Stress Test where they chk lungs also, echo, blood work - everything shows normal. But anytime she runs for a distance - 30 min or so...She gets the sharp pain in her chest & cannot breathe. Sometime the pain goes away in 10-15 min, at other times it has been 1.5 hrs before pressure completely gone. She runs sprints with no problem - stopping to rest 30 sec or so in between. Other weird things have been weight loss (about 10 lbs), lower back pain (x-ray & UA both fine) which went on for about two weeks and has since quit. I have put her on liquid Minerals and B-12, starting fixing her a good lunch vs the cafeteria - weight up a little and overall color better. But mind you bloodwork always good. Someone told me that they had a problem when they were swimming very simular. She said her sternum was dislocated-just off- not coming together correctly and adjustments with the Chiropractor corrected the problem My husband thinks that's crazy. I just wanted to get a professional opinion.
AnswerDeeAnn,
Absolutely NOT Crazy!! I, too, at age 13 had terrible sternal pain and I was taken to the doctor who took chest xrays... negative heart tests (this was over three decades ago, mind you). I wish my parents would have taken me to the chiropractor... Yes. Chest pain in a 13 year old after running... while it was nice that concerned doctors checked her cardiovascular system, her musculoskeletal system was the cause.
