Question
In 2002 I woke up from sleeping on a horrible bed in a cabin and my left leg was numb from my waist to my knee.  I then had to drive from NH to DC. Eventually the numbness went away but ever since then I get a numbness and tingling in my left rear and hamstring area whenever I sit down. A few years ago my left heel started to hurt (sometimes it feels like it is dead weight). A year or so after that I started getting burning pain in my left calf (stretching does help this). I have had probably 7-10 MRIs over the years, 2 nerve conduction tests, a brain scan, x-rays, a CT scan...and nothing is diagnosed.  I do have a cyst on my left kidney (I get it checked every year and there have been no changes). The last MRI (2 years ago) said "there is a long segment of increased signal on T1 and T2 involving the filum terminale and or distal nerve root. It is at least 8-10 cm long beginning at L2. The filum terminale appears to be split on a  developmental basis with nerve roots clumped almost equally although the left side has slightly more. The cord does not seem to be tethered but this is a developmental anomaly." One doctor dismissed this but since no other MRI had previously shown this I followed up with it with a neurologist and had more tests run. He says nothing shows up in any of the tests to have him treat me. So I am back to square one...7 years and counting. One doctor said I had neuropathy and prescribed Lyrica but after one day and feeling like my chest was going to explode, I stopped taking it. I just wish I could figure out what is causing the pain and other symptoms. I go to the chiro pretty regularly but this does not help. The rear area is fine as long as I am not sitting and it goes away within about 20-30 minutes if I start walking around. They calf burns esecially after certain exercise (running)and long periods of standing and the heel if pretty constant regardless of what I am doing (actually gets worse when I wear sneakers).

Answer
Does your chiropractor do any therapies on you?  They may want to try electrical stimulation on the path of the sciatic nerve.  Another avenue to try is treating this as deep muscle pain (gamma pain).  It is usually associated with a cord injury or problem.  You can check this out and it's treatment at www.painonline.org/muscle.  Hope that this helps
