QuestionHi,
I have been cutting and styling hair for ten years now, about two weeks ago while I was working my arm started feeling really stiff at the shoulder when I had it raised at about eye level. Every time I lowered my arm it would pop (mildly painful). Since then it starts getting weak while I'm working makes my hair cutting clippers feel like they weigh about 20 pounds!! My Right arm gets shaky and I have to stop what I'm doing.
I went to my doc and he seemed to be in a real hurry. He did a few arm movements with me and left the room he came back a few minutes later and told me it was rotator cuff tendonitis and sent me home with a sheet of exercises to do and a prescription for anti inflammatory (told me not to take them unless I started hurting really bad) I started taking them anyway because I would rather NOT get to the REALLY bad pain. They aren't helping. The sharp pains are very random and usually from top of shoulder through my shoulder blade, sometimes down my arm to my elbow, and sometimes to the side of my neck from my shoulder. I've even felt it in my arm pit shoot through my right breast. I don't understand why the pain is so random.?? Or why the anti inflammatory isn't working.?? I'm going in a few days to see if a chiropractor can help. Do you think he will be able to help?
AnswerWithout an actual hands on exam it is hard to tell exactly, but I would definitely say that the chiropractor should be able to help. You have a repetitive motion sprain/strain of the upper extremity, and with good care and a good rehab program, should be able to turn around nicely. A good chiropractor should also be able to assess whether there is also a need for a specialist, or if the treatment isn't working, refer you to the proper specialist
