There can be many causes of popping/burning with the shoulder.  Muscle tension and slight misalignment in the shoulder or neck can be the most likely causes.  Without an actual hands on exam, it is hard to pin down.  I would suggest an evaluation by a good chiropractor.  They should be able to determine if it is a minor problem, or something that needs referral to a specialist.
