Question
QUESTION: my mother had a frozen shoulder a couple of weeks ago,she was in a lot of pain xrays were normal but now she has a lot of pain in the other shoulder too with swelling in it.she also had alot of pain in her knee and know she has alotof swelling on the knee too.the doc gave her some meds and told her that after the pain gets a little better she can go for physical therapy but the meds are not helping at all the pain is increasing day by day plz tell us what to do?

ANSWER: I would suggest you ice the areas in question...20 minutes of ice on, and 20 off, repeating 4 times.  She can also try taking the shoulder and knee through range of motion exercises (all of the normal motions that the joint can do).  You should notice a difference within a day or two; if not, I would suggest you try a good chiropractor that also treat the extremities.  You don't want to wait too long to start therapies, and there are many things that can be done right now to help.

Answer
I would definitely start with the ice.  That will help decrease inflammation, and calm any spasm of the muscles.  Meds. that can help are anti inflammatory and possibly muscle relaxants.  If she is getting no relief, I would suggest she try an orthopedist to be evaluated and see what exactly is going on.
