Question
I've had lower back pain on my left side on and off for about a year and a half. I just had a CT scan done and the results are as follows:

"Slight abnormalities in the sacroiliac joints with slight subcortical sclerosis. The findings are more obvious on the left side, mainly on the iliac. Arthritis on inflamed setting?"

The orthopedist is sending me to a rheumatologist to test for ankylosing spondylitis.
What does it sound like to you? Thanks.

Answer
hello elijah,
Israel is one of my favorite countries to visit. It is beautiful there.
to answer your question, sclerosis is a fancy word for Osteoarthritis. I'm not sure how old you are, but this could be important when diagnosing AS (ankylosing Spondylitis). I think it is a good thing to rule out. If it comes back negative then you need to deal with the arthritis in SI joint. There are a few ways to do that.
1: take an anti inflammatory (or cox 2 inhibitor) like vioxx or celebrex. All of those meds have side effects and do not directly address why you have arthritis.
2: take glucosamine and chondroiton sulfate with omega 3 fish oil and MSM, to preserve the cartilage you have left. These will probably not alleviate pain much, but will slow down the degenerative process.
3: Chiropractic care will align the joint correctly and slow down the progression of arthritis and alleviate your pain.
if it were me i would do number 2 and 3 together, but ultimately that is your decision. I do know that there are a few chiropractors near the tel aviv area.
i hope this helps and wish you luck.
