QuestionHi,
Over the past 2 years, I have been having a lot of problems with my eyes. They frequently become red, usually one at a time. Sometimes it is worst then other times. When they are red, they are sensitive to light, and become extremely blurry. It occurs suddenly, and may last for a day or over a month at a time. I've went to several doctors and no one was able to give me a answer. My father has ankylosing spondylitis, and this is a symptom that describes it, however, I do not have back pain at the moment, I was wondering if it was possible that I had the disease and the symptoms are starting to come out. Also, I often lose strength in my hands, usually my right hand, and it often becomes numb, especially my thumb, which sometimes last for long periods of time. I was wondering if this was related to the red eye in any way? Thanks, Jennifer
Answerhello jennifer,
i hope when you went to the doctors you told ALL of them about your family health history.
You may want the blood vessels checked inside the eye while it is happening. I'm sure you did that already.MS can cause vision problems too. should get tested if haven't already. Otherwise that is OUT of my scope of practice.
as far as your hand goes. you should get an MRI of your cervical spine and brachial plexus depending on which fingers are numb. your dr. will know what to prescribe. If that shows up negative you could have an EMG which may show carpal tunnel syndrome. If your numbness gets worse at night across the whole hand then it probably is Carpal tunnel syndrome (causing your numbness)
i have info on my site about carpal tunnel.
I'm not saying the eyes and numbness are not connected, they very well may be. But, by testing to find etiology of the numbness you will rule some other conditions.
