QuestionOct 15th 2009 I was in the gym doing a very light shoulder press to warm up, A very light weight that i could easily do up to 25 reps if i wanted. On my 6th rep i felt a sharp pain in my left trap/ shoulder blade. The pain persisted for a few weeks and eventually got better.
December 20th I felt the same pain in my trap/back not nearly as severe. the next morning the pain was almost gone but my left pointy finger tip was numb. As the weeks have gone by it has spread to my index and middle finger and I also feel shooting tingling sensations down my left arm. In just the past week I have lost 80% of the muscle strength in my left tricep and I am really starting to worry....What is wrong with me? ( besides my terrible typing skills and multiple grammatical errors)
AnswerThank you for your question.
I can't supply you with a diagnosis over the Internet, but in general, your symptoms warrant immediate evaluation by an orthopedic surgeon or a chiropractor. You will probably need to have an MRI scan of either the neck to rule out a possible disc herniation or the rotator cuff to rule out a tear or tendinosis.

In the interim, you need to lay off of weight training until you are properly evaluated, lest you cause further injury to the affected area.
