Question
Hello.
I wonder if i can pick your brains regarding my daughter Kelly she is 23 years old and weighs approve 8 1/2 stone.
she always has a dull ache in her right side between her hip and her last rib. she copes with this well in the day time.
but this last 4 months she gets a terrific snapping sound that really does disabilities her, the pain is excruciating this seems to come from the last rib or there about she says that she feels like some thing opens up and she can put her finger in like a squishy hole then it goes then she gets serious muscle spasms so bad that she cant talk etc.. the pain on the snap is so bad we have been up the emergency room for the last 4 months every day via ambulance where she has gas and air and 15 IM morphine they don't know what it is she has had a CT scan with out the dye as they could not get a canuala in as her veins break up if they do then the blood clots or it just wont come out. as parents we are at our wits end as this is happening every day.
also it can happen on impact if she steps down a kerb hard or we put the brakes on sudden in the car that can set it off.
the snapping noise is getting worse and more painful.
every one hears it but poor kell feels it.any ideas
she has had physio, tens, accupuncure.and injections but its just getting worse as its baffling the doctors who ever figures this out will take the prize.we are only guessing but could it be a very badly damaged tendon, ligament, cartridge or muscle.
many thanks
Mrs Jean delderfield

Answer
Ms. Delderfield,

I would recommend MRI of the spine region.  If she has not had work by a chiropractor that has training/certification in soft tissue methods, then she is missing out.   See if anyone is near you that is certified in Active Release Technique (ART) or Graston TEchnique (www.grastontechnique.com).   She may have a problem with her psoas muscle or the muscular attachments of her diaphragm.  She might have an unstable lumbar disc.  A doctor of chiropractic needs to physically examine her to get a feel for this.

Good luck with this.
