Question
hello,
I am an older female and pulled something in my left upper hip area in late 2007, tried massage, chiropracter, but is very expensive, with no relief.
Some days can hardly walk on my left leg, do I need to get exray, I was told my right leg is shorter.

what can I do? my quality of life is greatly affected.

Thank you,
Nancy

Answer
good question nancy.
first question i would ask is how long did you consistently go to chiropractor for (how many times a week, and for how many weeks) if you didn't give it 8 weeks, then that would make sense. If you are out of shape or over weight it may take you longer than the average person to heal. Now it's considered a chronic injury.
there are 2 types of short legs \:
an anatomical short leg (which is a true short leg)
           OR
a short leg due to pelvic distortion (deerfield short leg)

either way, you need to find out which it is. In my eyes, the best and most accurate way i know of is to have an
ANTERIOR/POSTERIOR PELVIS X RAY    (WITH YOU STANDING)

DO NOT HAVE THE XRAY TAKEN UNLESS YOU ARE STANDING AND WEIGHT BEARING.
then you can get an exact measurement and you may need to add a heel lift (short leg side)in your shoe, if the leg discrepancy is more then 11 mm then you would need to go to a shoemaker and have him add on the rest of the lift (only in the heel) to the bottom of the shoe.

ps-if you are under the care of a chiropractor or physical therapist you need to do YOUR part to get through this injury. That means you need to spend a minimum of 30 minutes a day of stretching those hi flexors and hamstrings and glutes.
