QuestionI am 55 and have scoliosis. Previously I have not had pain from this problem.
Six months ago I developed pain in my lumbar area (approx L3) after using a new machine in the gym. This pain persisted for the next two months. After 2 months I was seeking some new trainers and was advised by a specialist sports shop to have heel inserts. I was told these would counter the imbalance in my hips and help prevent further curvature of my spine. I began to use them daily.
After another month I noticed that the pain in my lumbar was moving down to my sacrum. At the time I didn抰 link this to the new heel inserts and continued to use them.
Four months after the original injury I realized that the pain was now entirely in my sacral area and began to wonder if the original injury had healed and whether the sacral pain was due to the heel inserts. I removed the inserts.
Now, six months after the original injury I still get constant pain in my sacral area. The pain is primarily on the side where the heel insert was used.
Do you think that the heel insert has created this pain? If so what muscles / ligaments are involved and how can it be healed?
Thank you for your valued attention.
AnswerKel,
First and foremost stay away from that machine! But there are a hundred exercises that can replace that machine.
I also agree that just putting in heel lifts could have caused the problems you described in your question so get rid of those also.
I highly suggest you get a workup by a chiropractor..especially since you have scoliosis. The idea here is to see if the chiropractor can get your pelvis working correctly again. You more than Likely have one or more subluxations (bones out of place pinching nerves) as well as a subluxation of your sacroiliac Joint.
I hope this information is helpful in your decision making process concerning your back issues.
