Middle Back Pain

Question
Hi Doctor,

I've been having chronic back pain/soreness around my middle back, thoracic area, bilaterally, for the past 10months. I think the initial cause was from repetitive overtraining and boxing injury as throwing punches both stresses and twists the thoracic spine area. My pain isn't sharp but rather a chronic aching soreness, esp when I bend. the tissue can be painful if massaged. I get more pain if I throw punches, hence I have stopped.

Your opinion would be really appreciated. Do you think its a muscular/soft tissue/ligament problem? Or is it my spine (my paraspinal muscles are very sore too). Would you recommend a certain type of chiropractic care? Thanks doctor!

Answer
Hi Dan,

Sorry I'm late on this.  I don't know how I missed it in my email.  Anyway, your situation is very simple.  Yes, it's the muscles, ligaments, soft tissues, etc.  It's likely all of it as they all tie together.    You need to find a sports chirpractor who has training in soft tissue therapy.    One good place to start is with www.acbsp.com  and look for DACBSP's (at best) and CCSP's second.   You also can cross this list with www.grastontechnique.com as you will find this method quite helpful if you are a boxer and have a lot of musculature.   I also have a "How To" tab on my web site www.drgillman.com that explains how to find a good chiropractor.

I hope this was helpful and timely enough...
