thanks(:

Answer
Staten Island Chiropractic, Chiropractic Degree, Doctor of Chiropractic, Staten Island Chiropractor, Chiropractic Doctor, Medical Doctor, Undergraduate college, chiropractic graduate school, Monsignor Farrell High School, Wagner College, Palmer College of Chiropractic,

Hello Keely,

Thank You for your question.  So many people are interested in health, and health professions now-a-days.  I cannot think of a better choice than to be a Doctor of Chiropractic.

I will actually work backwards in answering your question.
".......what types of classes should you take in highschool and college for a chiropractic?....":
In high school and college you should take primarily science courses.  Of course- a LOT of biology, some chemistry and physics.  I went to an academic high school here in my hometown of Staten Island; Monsignor Farrell High School.  Waaaaay back when, I took all the AP (advanced placement) classes available to me.  I took advanced calculus, biology, chemistry, etc.  These AP classes prepared me well for undergraduate college, and gave me a foundation for professional school.
If you are in High School- I recommend all of the AP courses you can take, especially relating to Biology and Chemistry.  Whether you want to be a Medical Doctor, or Chiropractic Doctor the pre-professional training is very similar.
In college, the curriculum stays the same.  The college will require certain courses to meet it's own requirements for a degree, and professional graduate school will require additional classes.  All of my friends (30 years ago) in Chiropractic school had their Bachelors degree from college.  My B.S. degree was attained cum laude at Wagner College, again in my hometown of Staten Island, NY.  My friends and fraternity Brothers had degrees in Biology, Pharmacy, Chemistry, and even Psychology and Physical Education.  Palmer College of Chiropractic often has students with a PRIOR M.D. degree- going for the additional D.C. degree.

Whether High School or College, the 'smart move' is to take: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics.  IF you enjoy Biology, you will probably enjoy Chiropractic.

While in High School or College- I recommend visiting your local Doctor of Chiropractic to see how things work.  Your IDEA of Chiropractic may be right on, or may be a little different from the real world.  I recommend visiting a doctor's office near you, perhaps volunteering or working in some capacity in the doctor's office.
Chiropractic has various specialties, just as Medical Doctors can specialize in something that interests them, so can Chiropractic Doctors.  see: http://www.acatoday.org/pdf/ApprovedChiropracticSpecialtyPrograms.pdf
I am a specialist in Sports Injury.
My advanced degree has brought me to many places unusual for a DC- my 'footer' on my stationery proudly lists some of my degrees/ credentials.  see my footer:

Dr. Victor E. Dolan,   Doctor of Chiropractic;   Diplomate, American Chiropractic Board of Sport Physicians;  Diplomate, American Academy of Pain Management;  Certified Clinical Nutritionist (IAACN);  FIRST  Chief of Chiropractic  in  a  Hospital  in  New York State (DHSI);  As  Seen  in  PREVENTION  Magazine ; Invited to Colorado Springs (Olympic Training Center) to  Care for USA Olympic Athletes 2010 ; Chiropractor to the Championship NYPD Football Team, and the PSAL High School Football Champions (Curtis) ; Staten Island SPORTS Hall of Fame- Unsung Hero 2011

So, you can see- if you follow the path of Chiropractic- there are many different specialties that you can get into-> according to your own interests!  Your practice can reflect what you ENJOY doing !!!   ----- A wonderfully rewarding and satisfying life I must say!

You ask, "....what college did you go to?...."; the COLLEGE I went to, the undergraduate school I attended was Wagner College in Staten Island, New York.  I graduated with a Bachelor of Science, cum laude, in Psychology with a concentration in Biology.
Any accredited undergraduate college will suffice for your pre-professional requirements.  Chiropractic, just like Medicine does NOT require a four year Bachelor's Degree to be admitted; BUT Chiropractic, like Medicine has a majority of students that have that four year bachelors degree.

We proceed now to the graduate, professional level- you ask, "....what are examples of colleges that have good chiropractic degrees?....".
All LICENSED professions are governed by law.  Federal law, state law and perhaps even local law regulate the many professions, disciplines that are career choices in America.  For the Doctor of Chiropractic degree, a student must attend/ graduate from an accredited Chiropractic School (just as a Doctor of Medicine degree requires attendance/ graduation from an accredited Medical School).
Federal authority as well as state authority recognizes the CCE (Council on Chiropractic Education) as our accrediting agency- see: http://www.cce-usa.org/  : "The Council on Chiropractic Education (CCE) is the agency recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education for accreditation of programs and institutions offering the doctor of chiropractic degree" .

Currently there are only 15 recognized Chiropractic Schools in the USA, operating at 18 different locations:  http://www.cce-usa.org/Accredited_Doctor_Chiro.html  see below:

Cleveland Chiropractic College
    1.  Cleveland Chiropractic College - Kansas City - Overland Park, KS
    2.  Cleveland Chiropractic College - Los Angeles - Los Angeles, CA

Life University College of Chiropractic - Marietta, GA

Life Chiropractic College West - Hayward, CA

Logan College of Chiropractic - Chesterfield, MO

Southern California University of Health Sciences
Los Angeles College of Chiropractic  - Whittier, CA

Doctor of Chiropractic Degree Program in the College of

Palmer College of Chiropractic
    1. Palmer College of Chiropractic - Davenport, IA
    2. Palmer College of Chiropractic West - San Jose, CA
    3. Palmer College of Chiropractic Florida - Port Orange, FL

Parker College of Chiropractic ?Dallas, TX

Sherman College of Chiropractic - Spartanburg, SC

Texas Chiropractic College ?Pasadena, TX

University of Bridgeport College of Chiropractic - Bridgeport, CT

University of Western States College of Chiropractic - Portland, OR

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

All of these schools MUST achieve the same standards to be legally authorized, accredited as recognized Chiropractic Schools.

Chauvanistically, I would recommend my Alma Mater- Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport Iowa to any student thinking of Chiropractic:  http://www.palmer.edu/  , Whether Davenport, Iowa; San Jose, California; or Port Orange, Florida; = I recommend my old school: Palmer.

Secondarily, I would recommend- in no particular order, just based upon my personal opinion;
Parker College of Chiropractic ?Dallas, TX ; Life University College of Chiropractic - Marietta, GA ; Sherman College of Chiropractic - Spartanburg, SC ; Logan College of Chiropractic - Chesterfield, MO .

But, again, ALL Chiropractic colleges answer to the same authority- the CCE and meet the same stringent criteria.

Chiropractic is safe, effective and cost effective.  It is a great career.  I applaud you for even thinking of this great profession, and the service it provides humanity.
