QuestionI had my 2nd adjustment since my car wreck. After the first adjustment I felt relief in my neck and jaw. But now after having my 2nd adjustment I'm sore again. The base of my neck is really sore. In between my shoulder blades hurts as well. When the dr adjusted my neck with me lying face down, I immediately began to hurt in my chest. It was burning and kinda took my breath. I told him about it, but he said it was where I was still tender from the accident. My accident was over 2 weeks ago. Does this sound normal to you?
Thanks for your time.
AnswerAmy,
If you have a sprain/strain injury then the chiropractor has to really be careful about how much force is applied for spinal joint manipulation. It is not unusual to have soreness side effects from joint manipulation in general, and these are often very benign. If you are sore from tissue damage caused by the accident, the DC must use methods to quell these symptoms. Ice, heat, massage, and analgesic lotions are helpful and can make joint manipulation easier. Also, you may be better off initially doing gentle mobilizations, soft tissue massage and exercises before attempting joint manipulation if you find that the manipulation provokes your symptoms. Lastly, some folks get sore from treatment and for reasons we don't completely understand. If you consistently are sore from treatment, let the doctor know so he can make the appropriate modifications. If he is unwilling to make modifications, then find a new doctor.
'Hope this helps.
