QuestionHi Timothy,
I am 17 years old now and I've had shoulder tightness for
over a year and a half now under my left clavicle in my left shoulder. It was caused by me benching 110 lbs ( I lifted too much too soon). I did go to a physiotherapist and have been doing their stretches/strengthening techniques. Their exercises don't seem to be working though. I've also went for a MRI scan and it came back normal with no muscle tissue torn or damaged. Despite this, I have still been doing light workouts and stretches to still maintain circulation in my shoulder. Overtime my shoulder has gotten a little less tight, but not by much. I am still able to fully rotate my shoulder and do any shoulder exercise without pain. It's only really a nagging tightness. Is there any way to get rid of this shoulder tightness or do I just have to wait it out? Are these just growing pains that I will eventually grow out of? Your help will be greatly appreciated
and thank you in advance.
AnswerI often see this and we do deep tissue massage in the office as well as spinal adjustments to the neck and upper back (If needed). In addition, I manipulate the shoulder. If you can find a chiropractor that treats sports injuries, I think you will have a much better result. Stretching exercises are great, but need to be combined with deep tissue work and sometimes joint manipulation. I doubt it's growing pains. It sounds like a chronic pectoralis injury where it attaches to the shoulder.
Also, consider treating it with a therapeutic "cold" laser. Most chiropractors have this laser.
