STANDING AFTER SITTING, HIP PROBLEM

Question
Dear Dr. Kulla, I am a very healthy 66 year old female. Approximately 6 or 7 years ago, I started having some difficulty getting up from a SITTING position after sitting for approximately 10-15 minutes (sometimes less). I do NOT have any problems from a lying position; I can jump out of bed with no problem, but after sitting anywhere, I have to stand for about 30 seconds before I can start moving; it's very embarrassing as I only look about 45 years old until I have to try standing. I don't have any back problems, but I WAS an acrobat when I was very young but had no problems that I knew of at the time. This has gotten progressively worse. What's interesting is that at one time awhile back, I took some supplement that must have worked because this condition all went away. Unfortunately, I take many pharmaceutical grade supplements and I always continue to try to eliminate as many as I can and something that I eliminated must have been working because it's back! I try to get all my vites/minerals through food as best I can. I drink tons of water, exercise (walk and cycle) but I'm just stumped over what this could be? Now, this is a secondary problem that has nothing to do with the standing thing, but about 3 months ago, I got this snapping hip syndrome. Seems to be getting better but I have difficulty walking because I can't stretch my tendon as far as my other leg. Gosh, so many problems. But the main one would be getting up from a SITTING position. Please don't tell me to go to a traditional doctor; they're useless. (Lying is no problem), many thanks, Nancy

Answer
nancy,
you may have a hip or pelvic misalignment causing this problem. t6ry this first: stretch the front of your legs (quads) and stretch the sides of the legs (IT band) everyday for 20 minutes minimum. if the problem persists after 2-3 weeks of doing these stretches then consult a chiropractor.
