QuestionJust received MRI results which show L3-L4 Disc Bulge with ligamentum flavum and degenerative facet hypertrophy contributing to moderate central canal and bilateral neural foraminal stenosis. Also a Tarlov cyst was found at the level of S2 measuring approx. 2 cm in maximal CC dimension. Chiroprator wants to use spinal decompression. Will this help? But should I have the Tarlov cyst checked further first? If I start the decompression before addressing the cyst, will that cause problems and/or further damage?
AnswerDear Pam,
Usually the Tarlov cyst is nothing to worry about, but it is always a good idea to have them looked at by a neurologist.
If I were you, i would not initiate treatment with the chiropractor until I had them evaluated by the neurologist, and cleared that they were unlikely the cause of your pain, and that they will not get worse with manipulation or traction.
Good luck with your back issues. I hope that the tarlov cysts are stable and that you can try decompression. It often helps patients with your type of degenerative/bulging disc issues.
