QuestionAbout six weeks ago I started experiencing a tightness and sharp pain in my left upper hip and buttocks area -also on the left side. I tried Yoga and over the counter pain relievers but they did not help. Within a few more days a very sharp pain began radiating down the back of my thigh to my knee...the pain has never gone below the back of my knee..but it is constant. The pain is worse when I sit or stand. When I walk it seems a bit less painful. Driving is the worst. I went to my chiropractor 4 times and was frustrated that the pain had not subsided. Then I went to see an Acupuncturist. I have seen him twice but no changes yet...
My question is - should I see both these doctors at the same time - will that be an effective treatment plan or should I stick to one form of treatment...if so - what do you believe is the best choice to achieve long term results?
AnswerThis isn't something that will just disappear in 4 visits. People want instant relief, I understand that. That's not how it works though. If you have had back pain radiating into your upper leg or buttock in the past , then this is the same problem, just a flare up. Your chiropractor will alleviate the pain , but you need to have patience and follow through with your care. I would not suggest doing both at the same time. I have never had a case of sciatica go away in 4 visits. You will get through this just follow through with his care plan and you will have relief in the near future.
