QuestionI read the question and answer you posted to see a chiropractor to help heal the numbness in arm/fingers and after 4-6 weeks if it has not helped to get an MRI. I have been seeing a chiropractor for the past 6 weeks and my numbness in my arm, hand, fingers is still there, as well as pain has started in my other arm. My question is What will the MRI find and/or do? And if it does "find" something will they want to do surgery. I am very young and have 2 young children. I fear having neck/back surgery at my age. Is there other options. I have discussed this with my chiropractor and at this point I have had little luck with finding out information on what could happen. Please help! Thanks!
AnswerAn MRI will tell you whether or not the disc is bulged, herniated or normal. Surgery depends on the extent of damage to the discs. Often times people have disc herniations and are able to alleviate pain through chiropractic care. Some cases take longer than 4-6 weeks. You should see some improvement in the worst case scenario. For example: numbness occurs less often or less intense, neck pain subsiding or improving.
There are some other modalities you can try. If you have a positive MRI you can try cold laser therapy or traction.
You can also go the more invasive way without surgery , but have cortisone injections.
First get your MRI, continue with the chiropractor ( I am assuming you are seeing the Chiro 2 -3 times a week)
Then make the decision what to do after the MRI.
