Question
HELP!
In Jan. of 2001, I had a Spinal Fixation System (rods and pedicle screws) placed in my low back. It is at L4-5 and S-1. (4 rods and 6 screws)
I had a CT scan with a milogram done last week it shows there is absolutely no fusion and the left screw at L 5 was placed or has move next to my spine, the overview shows an indent in the spine where the screw is.
The doctor wants to redo the surgery and also include a metal cage placed thru the stomach?I had a second opinion, which said he would use bone chips instead of the metal cage. Actually, I would like all the current hardware removed period. But the doctors say they have never heard of such a thing without a total bone fusion. Have you?

Regretably, I am a doctor of physical therapy and I really have no expertise in the area of surgeries. I do know that once your physical makeup of the spine has been altered, you should best heed the advice of the people who altered it, since they are the only ones who have actually seen what is inside you firsthand. Sorry I could not be of more help.
