Question
i have an area of my back covering almost half of one side which is numb. it has been this way for over a year and i was wondering if you could shed any light on a possible cause.
i've had shingles twice first time was 16 years ago and the rash was across my chest then almost 2 years ago but the rash was on my face could this be connected? i would really appreciate any advice as it is very uncomfortable but not painful.

Answer
Although it could be shingles, I doubt it because shingles are usually extremely painful.  If this is a true "numbness," you have some tpye of nerve interference.  Without an exam it's hard to determine exactly what this could be.  It could be related to shingles because the virus that causes shingles lie dormant in the nerves within the spinal cord.  My suggestion is to get an exam from your doctor, if it is shingles or not I would seek some chiropractic care.  Chiropractors can relieve the malposition of the spine that may be causing the nerve irritation.  Any other question please write back.
