QuestionTrying to keep this brief...For the past 16 months, I have had a head discomfort. It is very hard to explain, and very involved to try to relate the feeling. To sum it up here at this time, I can tell you it is a numbing, tingling moderate pain, that extends from my neck, above my ears, around the back of my head, and to the top of the head. Several doctors, after viewing CT and MRI results, have different opinions. One said the MRI showed cerebellar tonsils extending to but not below the foramen magnum. Another MRI with another doctor shows a small herniated disc in the neck. This is the latest finding and reason for my quest here.
This latest doctor wants to give me a nerve block. Quite honestly, Iam very nervous and worried to have this done, and even wonder which of the two doctors have the correct evaluation. I have been trying to find out more about nerve block and came across your name here and wondered if you can give me some of your opinion and also tell me what all is involved with it. I realize you don't have all the information needed here, but just your input will help.
Thank you very much
AnswerRonn,
Do not get a nerve block until you have tried the option I suggest. Surgery is irreversible.
The sensations you describe may easily be the consequence of contracted muscles at the base of your cranium, which connect cranium to neck. The muscles of biting (temporalis) may also be involved. Doctors commonly overlook muscular contractions of this type as the cause of symptoms. Odd, but true.
Get some training in relaxing those muscles. I predict the symptoms will disappear entirely.
