Question
I was in a car accident in October 2006. I was rearended. I hadn't had any back problems until the accident. I went to a walk in clinic and they did x rays on my back and the doctor said that it revealed there was a slight curve in my spine due to the accident, but it wasn't anything major.
The next day I went to the ER because I thought I noticed blood in my urine. The doctor in the ER checked did a urine test and there was no blood found. He also told me that I had severe muscle spasms, but I would be fine.

I took it easy for a couple of months and when the pain was gone, I started weight training again. I would get a sore back from time to time, but it was normal muscle soreness. It never felt like it did after the accident.

A week ago, I went to a double headed baseball game and the next morning, my back felt like I had just gotten in the accident again. I finally went to the doctor after hurting for 4 days.

My doctor didn't really listen to anything I said and just poo pooed me. However, she did send me to get an MRI. The results showed that it was "normal wear and tear on the back." However, I'm an active 25 year old and have never had back problems until this accident. Also, the MRI was only on my lumbar, but I have had problems on the right side of my back, which the doctor chose to ignore.

The nurse that called to give me the results assured me that my pain isn't from the accident, but it's the exact same pain that came after the accident.

The doctor has ordered me to Physical Therapy.

Everytime I have visited my doctor, I have left frustrated. She doesn't even make eye contact when I am talking to her. Should I just except that it's a conicidence that the pain in my back is the exact same pain that came from the accident and has been persistant for over a week but is just normal wear and tear?

Answer
Hi Liz,

You are a classic example of why people go to Chiropractors for these problems. Medical doctors are not equipped to handle these issues, so they blow you off with some Celebrex and give you a few session of P.T.

Your low back pain is most definitely related to your accident, your body never forgets a trauma. Cumulatively, these add up and can cause serious problems down the road. Get to a D.C. right away and have it worked on, you will see results immediately. You were never treated properly in the first place, you should have gotten extended care for 6-8 weeks following the accident.

Please follow up with a Chiro,
