QuestionJust over a week ago I strained the muscles in the left side of my neck. When the incident occurred I instantly got a headache at the back of my head. Along with the neck pain, my left arm hurts and left shoulder. The pain is now numbing as it doesn't go away. However, no matter how many advil's I take, the sharp pain at the back of my head won't go away. It is affecting my sight. How can I get rid of this pain, and what is causing it?
AnswerLindsey,
Sounds like what's causing your symptoms is what you describe as having "strained the muscles in" your neck. Neck muscles in spasm compress nerves that go from the neck to the arm (arm symptoms) and cause headaches. There are also reflexive connections between the muscles at the back of the neck/base of head and the eyes.
