Question
QUESTION: Hi, i emailed you before, i have an appointment by the end of this month, should i tell the doctor to ex-ray my ribs or what. how can i tell the doctor to check for it.
thanks
sultan

ANSWER: Hi Sultan,

I hope it's a DC you are seeing. No x-ray is needed since a slight malposition/fixation of the rib articulation with the thoracic vertebrae would be undetectable. it is very easy to palpate them for a trained neuromuscular specialist such as a qualified and competent Chiropractor. This can be challenging finding one of those, but even the worst DC can fix a subluxated rib. Let me know his name and where you are located and I can check up on him, if in the US. If not, ask him what school he went to, that will tell me a lot.

you should notice 80% relief after 3 visits at most, if not, let me know and we will get it done another way.

Good Luck!

QUESTION: is this a permanent injury? (can i still do lateral raises after it heals or do i have to stay away from dumbells?)
thanks

Answer
He/she will put it in for you immediately and you'll feel the difference. Doing lateral lifting is what causes it to happen. There are other exercises you can do that won't bother the ribs much, like pull downs and incline bench work. Face it, if you try laterals again and the rib pops out then it would be wise to stay away from that or any exercise that creates a problem. Later we will talk about other strategies to get the same job done without aggravating the rib.
