Question
Hello.  I was going to NUCCA for about almost 3 months and found that after the adjustments I have extreme burning in my neck, face and rest of my body-I have lost the cervical curve in my neck due to muscle spasms-which is putting alot of pressure on the rest of my body-I have FM and also have this movement issue going on-been a mess lately-I feel that my body and nerves and tissues are in trauma and inflammed and that everything I try seems to increase all of the feelings-I just started with another chirop- what do you think any suggestions how do I get my cervical curve back into place what should I do-I really wish NUCCA would of helped but the burning and tremendous shaking of my body was not good so of course I stopped-I feel out of balance and not in proper alignement therefore everything on my body hurts and is in dysfunction!! Please help!! Thanks so much!! Madaly

Answer
You may never get the normal cervical curve in your neck restored, and that should not necessarily be your ultimate goal. A neutral cervical lordosis would certainly be ideal, but you may have some changes in your neck (arthritis, degenerative disc disease, etc) that would make this very difficult if not impossible to achieve.

Alignment of your neck should be addressed, but chiropractic manipulations are not always enough to restore balance. Chiropractors have many different approaches and adhere to different philosophies so I would suggest you find a practitioner who incorporates some type of physical therapy into the regimen of care. Restoring the curve in your neck may not necessarily make your pain and symptoms disappear so I would try to find someone whose main focus isn't just going to be restoring the curve. Otherwise you may be setting yourself up for many (and possibly unnecessary) visits, costly expenses, and little relief of your pain.

Chiropractors who practice diversified adjusting techniques, motion palpation, and are "mixed" in their approach would probably serve you best.
