My back!

Question
Hello
I was wondering if you could help with some problems....

I fell on some stairs a couple of years ago and the contusion runs laterally across my back, just under the hips where the sacrum is located....my muscles (the ones that run from the neck to the butt along the flanks of the spinal chord) were hurt, and for a while things were really sore and achy. Now there is a small sack or a lump/mass where the contusion was, and it feels like a mass of cartilage or liquid or something along those lines...
Do you know what this might be and is there a cure?

Answer
I don't know from your description, David, what it might be.  I would expect a hard mass (contracted muscle), not something liquidy.

It's possible the fascia (connective tissue) was forced into an unnatural position and fluid is collecting.  If that, I would see a rolfer.

Other than that, I don't know.

If your back muscles are still sore, they are contracted and fatigued.  Some brain-muscle training would be the most direct form of help.  You might read my article, Completing Your Recovery from an Injury, at somatics.com/page4b.htm
