QuestionWhat treatment is best for easing the pain. Should I be having physio or just wear brace provided by hospital and take pain killers. Will I do any damage by walking?
AnswerLEAH,
It is vital to know how old you are and/or if you had a complete hysterectomy to ascertain the reason why you have a Fx at L5.
I suspect it was trauma induced since osteoporosis usually effects the middle of you back first, as well as the hip.
If this is the case, gentle walking 2 weeks after the fracture occurred is advisable as well as therapeutic ultrasound to cut the healing time down considerably. This is available at most Chiropractors and PT offices. I also don't know why they braced it unless it was unstable, usually these are compression fractures that require no intervention. Ask your Ortho about upping the pain meds and use copious amounts of icing to alleviate the swelling and inflammation.
I can't advise walking until I know specifically how old and were the fracture is, your doctor should be the one to ask. If this is impossible, I can be reached by e-mail.
Good Luck!
