QuestionI had a nasty fall four months ago during which I broke my shoulder. I also developed a 'dead zone' in my upper right leg about the same time. The leg works fine but I have a loss of feeling in that area and regular tingling sensation. I went for an MRI which came back with this report: 'a small central disk protrusion at the lumbar sacral level that is minimally displacing the anterior theca and encroaching on the lateral thirds of the canal and there is minor bilaterial impingement on the forming s1 nerve roots more marked on the left side.'
Could this be from the fall and causing the numbness? What can I do to fix it? Thanks!
AnswerArf!
Without knowing the particulars of your incident, it can be from the fall.
Pressure on the nerve roots from a disc protrusion can cause tingling sensations.
Muscular contractions triggered by the fall (reflexive reaction to pain and the sudden motions of the fall, itself), can cause the spinal column to tighten up, compressing discs and causing them to protrude (bulge).
A course of training to quiet the reflexive reaction is often sufficient to solve such a problem.
