Question
Hello Robert,
I fell of my BMX about five years ago and I think I've cause damage to my coxsis. I have muscle spasms every now and then. But this isn't the main problem.
I've been having upper back pains now for about a year. It started when I was working as a trainee mechanic. When I stopped so did the pain. Though it still came and went. I've had a couple of treatments from a friend of mine who's a trained physiotherapist. It helps, but it's temporary. And recently it's got really bad. I've been out of work for about three quarters of a year now and it's become a regular thing. Two hours after I awake it's uncomfortable and by the end of the day I'm in pain. This happens every day.
Also, recently, I've been needing to pee a lot. It comes and goes but on a bad day I'll need to visit the toilet every two hours at least. On a good day I'll need to go at least four or five times.
I've spoken to my doctor about this and he's given me a book called Treat Your Own back by Robin Mckenzie.
Problem is, this book seems to deal with a lot of problems I don't have. Other than the previously mentioned coxsis trouble, my lower back seems to be fine. It doesn't even touch on the upper back. No mention of it at all.
All of this brings me to my actual question. I've noticed recently that maybe I don't drink as much as I should. Could prolonged dehydration cause dehydration in my spine, thus bulging, thus bladder problems?
I'm going to put this to my doctor at my next appointment (Monday) but would like a second opinion. My physiotherapist friend tells me I should ask to see an Osteopath. Is this the correct course of action, or should I just be happy reading this book and stop bothering everyone.
Thank you for your time,
Joe

Answer
The book is good, but it does not help to correct the cause of the problem.  An Osteopath in 1950 would have been a good option but these days they are Medical Doctors, so I would not recommend the treatment route at this time.  What you need is a doctor that can locate and correct the cause of your health condition.  This is an Upper Cervical Specific Doctor of Chiropractic.
If you would like to pursue this option further then send me your location and I will refer you to a doctor that can help you in your area.
This is the way for you to get well, I am convinced, otherwise, you may continue to get worse and then you will have to go the medical route with drugs and surgery and a lesser quality of LIFE as your options.
Please act responsibly and swiftly in this matter, if you truly want the best results.
