Question
experiencing acute neck pain on the right side. Started quietly about 2
months ago-felt like a glandular problem and has since grown into a fairly
uncomfortable strain in the neck. limited movement, very tight in the
morning, and creates tingling/numbness in my arm. Had massages, use heat,
and ibubrofen. I am a runner, have been for 20 years, so I am not thinking
that I am a stressed runner. No trauma or event that triggered the pain. Any
ideas?

Answer
Janet,
It sounds to me like you may have a subluxation in your cervical spine.  This is when the spinal neck bones get locked in misalignment and can cause pain, decreased motion, and most of all nerve flow interference.  When it progresses further or is left uncorrected things get worse and one of the signs of it getting more advanced and worse is numbness/tingling in the extremities.
My guess is that this actually started more than 2 months ago when you noticed the pain but nevertheless, you would need to go for an evaluation to have the doctor locate the cause of your problem and then correct that cause.  The only Type of Doctors on the planet that I know of that can actually do just that is an Upper Cervical Specific Doctor of Chiropractic.  This doctor is more scientific and specific then a general chiropractor and can test your nervous system for interference.
What is better yet is that this doctor will locate and correct the cause if he/she accepts your case and without harmful drugs or surgery.
If you would like my assistance in locating a specialist, then send me your town information and I will reply back with someone that can help.
