QuestionHi Dr. Liza,
I appreciate your contributions! My story...I broke the posterior tip off my t-1 in a skateboard whiplash accident. A few months later, I absentmindedly carried heavy luggage on my right shoulder and then slept with a very thick pillow. The next day i woke up with a frozen shoulder which I can still see is dropped and rolled forward. It's now 3 years later, and I've spent the last 10 months trying diligently to fix this problem. Through rehab-type exercises and massage, i've been able to realign just about everything except for my collar bone. At the base of my throat, my clavicle protrudes like two bulbs, especially alot on the right side. I can feel that the bulbs are pulling outwards on the front of my chest, and it's causing the ribs under it (t-2?) to fan out too. Are there specific things I need to do? I think i need to wear shoulder supports/braces but haven't bought any yet. thx, roger
AnswerHi Roger,
I would recommend that you see a Chiropractic doctor who can assess your sternoclavicular and acromioclavicular joints (the joints on each end of your clavicle) and determine whether they are strained or dislocated. Once an accurate diagnosis is made, appropriate treatment can be recommended. This may involve wearing a support, laser therapy, chiropractic adjustments, additional exercises and/or muscle release techniques.
I hope this helps!
