QuestionI have Cerebral Palsy, mixed spastic-athetoid quaduplegic, and it seems like when I turned 35 my body began to give me new issues to contend with. There is one symptom in particular that seems quite puzzling that even the doctors are stumped about and I am hoping you may have some ideas that could help find the missing pieces.
For about six months now certain movements or activities cause me to become out of breath. I am not talking about the usual causes, such as running or playing a game of tennis, but rather a simple task. The shortness of breath use to only occur when I would bend over but as of a few weeks ago it now occurs when putting on a jacket, lifting my arms, putting on my socks, and so forth.
Just recently, I have been having shoulder pain, first at night when I go to bed but now it seems to linger into the day. The pain is high on the shoulders and can sometimes make typing on the keyboard quite painful, as if the muscles are really spasming.
I do not smoke, drink, or do any non-legal drugs. I was in a few car accidents in the 90抯 which have resulted in chronic neck/back pain due to my spastic muscles; I have had numbness and tingling in my arms and hands for a few years now to which no cause has been found. Not sure if there is a connection with these symptoms/injuries. Any input or ideas of where I might find answers to the mystery of shortness of breath and other symptoms would be most appreciated or if you know of someone else who may be able to assist, that would be appreciated. Thank you!
AnswerKaren,
What you are suffering from is Brainstem Pressure or a Medulla Insult. You see, located in your brainstem is the respiratory center which controls and regulates your breathing. Any pressure on the medulla can easily affect breathing efficiency regardless of amount of exercise you partake in. Having that pressure corrected is exactly what I do every day in my clinic and sounds exactly like what you need.
Furthermore, When there is an upper cervical injury interfering with brainstem function, the rest of the spine will actually follow the lead of the top and also get into unstable positions which can cause pressure upon nerves or bulging or herniated discs or both.
The fact that you are having numbness and tingling in your arms and hands is further proof that you are suffering from this nervous system trouble.
The reason that no one knows what is going on with you is simply that the doctors you have been to are not trained to locate or correct this sort of problem. So not only do they not help you but they don't even know that there is someone like me who can help this, so they usually offer drugs and surgery as a feeble attempt at helping, but that only makes the problem worse.
I want you to know that there is hope and you can improve your health, regardless of what condition you have been labeled with.

PS. I am curious to know your story and how you had acquired the diagnosis of CP. I know that it is supposed to be a brain trauma from birth, but I have encountered many over the last few years that have had the diagnosis afterthefact, and have also been bombarded with vaccinations prior to the diagnosis. I also realize that most births are associated with some sort of trauma from the delivery process, and some babies recieve more force and therefore more trauma during delivery. So if you would share some info. with me I would appreciate it.
