QuestionDr. Carr, my son Nick is 19 years old and a little over a year ago he came
home from snowboarding practically crying stating that everything hurt. He
apparently ran into a person who was on the track filming a friend. He (my
son) was in the air and could not avoid the accident. He began complaining
of headaches, which of course scared me, so I got him into a neurologist who
examined him, took MRI/MRA of head and Xray of C-spine. MRI/MRA
negative, c5 shows slight misalignment. My question is there any way this
can be corrected? He is a very active, sports minded boy just finishing his
2nd year of college. He believes in working out, eating right, and staying
away from alcohol. As his mom I'm scared regarding his neck injury. He now
has lower back discomfort; has had numerous adjustments, to no avail. Is his
back pain due to his c5 problem? We have an appointment with a sports
medicine spine specialist 5/6/09 in Green Bay, WI. Some direction would be
greatly appreciated.
AnswerThis is a straightforward chiropractic evaluation case, especially given your son's penchant for being healthy and taking care of himself. Typically, headaches are derived from c1 and c2.. you can visit my website, www.dynamicclinic.com to read about his type of headache. It's my humble opinion that there are very few "good" reasons for boys to have headaches.
It was smart of you to get the imaging you did, as well as a neurologist.. good mom.
Please contat me again after the visit with the sports doc... i'd love to hear about what was revealed in the exam.
