Question
dear sir,
i had recently suffered from back ache it was not too severe but recurring very often.i met a doctor he suggested an x-ray and after that an mri.the mri result was right paracentral protrusion of l4 l5 disc and right neural foraminal stenosis.the doctor suggested a surgery spinal stabilisation and said that its not a must but can help in the long run.he suggested some exercises and advised to reduce my weight and not to lift heavy weights.
is it necesary to do a surgery.if yes then how safe is it and what are the complications?is it enough to do the exercises and keep a check on my weight?
kindly reply ur suggestions are highly valued.

Answer
Hello, Rajitha,

Spine surgery is a drastic step that should be avoided unless more conservative measures have failed.

Bulging discs usually indicate contracted back muscles, which are not relieved by surgery, and which can be relieved by clinical somatic education.

Stenosis, if determined to be the source of pain, can be surgically alleviated -- but that is not spine stabilization surgery.

The best spine stabilization is provided by the muscular system in its natural functioning of movement and balance.
