QuestionI've had a slipped disc for 4 - 5 months now, I've had acupuncture ( no help ) and seen a doctor who referred me for an MRI scan.
My results came back and i was told it was better to wait a month to see if the swelling would go down. I am a delivery driver, which involves lifting and carrying items, and also driving which involves clutch control. Using my leg on the clutch causes me stabbing pains.
Should i be still working, is it better for me to be active or should i be resting?
AnswerMartin,
In general, it's better to be active. Rest doesn't change the kind of muscular conditioning that leads to "slipped disc" -- habitually overcontracted back muscles. However, being active doesn't appreciably change the condition, either. However, the movement of activity can temporarily make you feel better.
I think you have a repetitive lifting injury, which involves back muscles getting so contracted that they pull vertebrae out of place.
May I direct you to my write-ups on the condition at:

This is a more potent, rather than a less potent, approach than activity/rest/physical therapy
