Answer

Hanna Somatic Educatio
Hello, AH.

Paravertebral muscle spasms result from conditioning of the brain and muscular system usually caused by long-term stress or repetitive movement patterns or from injury.  It is a habituation of muscular contraction; the pain comes from muscle fatigue, facet joint (spinal) irritation, and sometimes from pressure on nerves.

Spina bifida is not usually a cause of such contractions.

The condition is not "dangerous" in the short term, but in the long term it may lead to disc degeneration from long-term pressure on the discs and to inconvenient episodes of incapacitation.

Paravertebral muscle spasms can be alleviated by a kind of training program the brings the muscles under your control -- somatic training.  The training works directly on brain-level conditioning

Feldenkrais practitioners practice in Israel; I don't know about other countries in the region.  The process produces gradual improvements.  Fast improvement can be had with Hanna somatic education; however, information on practitioners in the region is currently unavailable.

If you wish a recommendation for a self-care/self-help program, please ask.

regard,
Lawrence Gold
