Answer
Hello,

Sorry to hear about your fall.  Sounds like it amplified the problems you were already having.  I think the ice is a good idea.  15 minutes at a time is usually best, then let the area warm up a bit for a while (45 minutes or so) and then reapply.  And if you want to do 15 minutes of ice, then 15 of heat, 30 minute break卼hen repeat the entire sequence as often as you like, I've found that to be most effective both for myself and for my clients.

I also think you can help yourself from the fall and from the bulging discs in general by releasing the inappropriately tight tissue that is causing your discs in your back (and neck) to bulge.  You can do a great deal of good for yourself if you are willing to watch a few videos and follow along, all absolutely for free, at my website,

Where I show how to release the specific muscle groups that are causing your pain.

Basically, once you understand that bones are just blocks of calcium and they only go where muscles pull or hold them, then you begin to think of your muscles like the rigging  (ropes) on a big old sailboat.  If certain pieces of rigging get to tight, they can pull on the bones and cause the discs between them to be pressed to the point of bulging.  The trickily part is understanding that quite often it is a bigger stronger muscle group nearby, like the muscles in your hips (butt) that get tight,  and then your tight hip muscles cause your lower back muscles to tighten in an attempt to pull back against the inappropriate tension coming from your hips.  So your hips (perhaps) are tight, which causes your lower back muscles to be tight, which causes your disc to get compressed, which causes the nerves in that area to be negatively affected and cause you pain.

THE GOOD NEWS is that you can probably release that inappropriate tension all by yourself.  You just need someone to show you how.  That's why I built my totally free website to show you how.  For your back, check out this page:

and just follow along with the videos.
For your neck, much of the problems are probably coming from the muscles in your shoulder girdle pulling your shoulder blades (scapula) out of position and thereby yanking on your neck muscles and causing them to be inappropriately tight.  Check out my neck page to learn how to release that yourself:
http://www.do-it-yourself-joint-pain-relief.com/neck-pain-relief.html

Just take your time and follow along with the videos.  You can fix yourself, you just need someone to show you how.

I hope this helps.

Best,  Gary Crowley
