Question
Rusty,
In answer to your questions, I am seeing a ENT who has focused/Limited his practice to TMJ. Thankfully my Medical Insurance covers it. I have also had TMJ Arthroscopy done twice and again it helps for short while!  Thanks for responding to my question.  I am going to try the omega e fatty acid supplement.  I can't hurt and it certainly could help! I am at a point of bone on bone in the right jaw joint so I forsee another surgery in my future! Thanks again!

Question -
I have OA in the jaw joint and have receieved many injections of steroids and lidocaine. They help temporarily.  Is there any treatments that will help long term when dealing with the jaw joint?  I also have TMJ dysfunction and dislocated discs in the jaw to complicate matters.  Thanks!
Answer -
Patti,

I am sorry to hear that you have so much wrong with your jaw.

This is one of the toughest joints to treat. The combination of things you have wrong with your jaw makes it difficult. You can try on omega e fatty acid supplement or Cetyl Myristoleate supplement to help control the inflammation. Your doctor could try various anti-inflammatory drugs but since he does not have you on them he has probably ruled that out.

Have you seen a dentist that specializes in TMJ? What types of doctors have you seen?

I wish I could be of more help. I wish you good health.

Answer
Patti,

I am glad you are able to see an ENT that specializes in TMJ though I am sorry that the two surgeries did not fix the problem. It took us for ever to see this type of specialist for my son.

When it comes to Omega 3 fatty acids supplements I recommend ones that do not come from fish oil. There is a high level of mercury showing up in most fish now and taking this in daily may add to problems in the long run. There are good supplements derived from plant sources. Flax seed supplements are also excellent.

The good news about omega 3 is that it is great for your heart and circulatory system as well.

I hope this helps
