Question
Hello Karen,
One of my parents who is aged of about 58 Years was diagnosnized with Osteo-arthritis on both knees.

The rheumatologist prescribed some medicines like :
1. Diacerein
2. Mecobalamin 500 mg

I want to know are these medicines pain killers or they help in permanent reganing against Osteo-arthritis?

The doctor also told to continue these medicines for 2 to 3 weeks. If problems persist  he told that he will be giving some Injection( nextgen or so ) which costs around 5000 Rupees ( abt 100 Dollars) which will help cure the Disease.

I once again want to know whether this injection is a pain killer or a cure for Disease.

I have another query that there is a site http://www.amazingarthritisrelief.com/ which offers relief for arthritis. Is this suggestive.
I also want to know the what is the permanent and quick solution to this problem.

Regards,
Vivek

Answer
Dear Vivek,   The is NO CURE for Osteoarthritis...  The Diacerein is an Anti-inflammatory drug which reduces the inflammation and therefore, help to reduce the pain, but this is NOT a pain killer....  As for the Mecobalamin it is a homologue of vitamin B12 www.abcmedics.com/mecobalamin.html

I do not have any information on nextgen so can't help you there....  I see NOTHING that he/she is getting any medication for pain, but if they are not allergic to Advil, this is one of the bewst over-the-counter medications for Osteoarthritis pain....

thank you,   karen
