QuestionI also had a positive RA blood test and have been doctoring for different pains in my legs, knees, and ankles and now in my hands. The blood test was done by my family M.D. but when I went to the RA specialist today he didn't seem to want to run any further tests and said he didn't see any swelling or redness today so I must not have it. I asked if he could do some kind of diagnostic test as my mother has had RA since age 19. He agreed to do a new blood test but said if that one came back positive it may just be a coincidence. What should I be asking them to do regarding these positive tests?
AnswerIt may be worth a second opinion from another rheumatologist, if your insurance will allow it. If you haven't already asked this doc her/his rationale, there's no harm in that! What s/he says may help you understand her/his approach more, and if you don't like the answer, find a new rheumatologist.
