QuestionI had an ANA blood test that came back +++ with titers 1:160. Vit D 25 at level 11.7
The+ was on Homogeneous pattern (smooth) antigen detected
dna (ds,ss), histone. It then says suggested disease association high titers =SLE.
On Speckled antigen SM,RNP, SCL-70,SS-a/SS-b. Suggested disease SLE,MCTD, Scleroderma, Sjogrens. All that is under see interpretation below. Bun was 5 with normal 7-22.
Does this mean a false ++? I just got back my labs for after this and they are listed as:
ESR 5 NORMAL 0-20 MM
ACA,QN
ANTI-dsDNA Anti
Sjogren AB
ENA
PTT-LA w/reflex
Centromere B Ab
PTT-la 45.9 normal 0-50.0
ACA,IGG <11 NORMAL 0-10GPL
ACA.IGM < 10 NORMAL 0-9 MPL
ACA,IGA < 13 NORMAL 0-12 APL
ANTI-DNA (DS) A 8 NORMAL 0-99IU
SSA 50 NORMAL
SSB 9 NORMAL
RNP ANTIBODIES 15 NORMAL
SMITH ABY 11 NORMAL
DRVVT 39.0
INTERPRETATION COMMENT
no lupus anticoagulant was detected.
My dr will not go over results til Feb 7. I take it as all
is normal and not really feeling the pain that I think I am?Can you tell me if the ANA was false + or is some thing going on that I just have not been told. They took 11 tubes
of blood including urine. This is the only result they faxes to me. Was that to much blood to do all these test for?
AnswerHi Joy,
It may be a false positive, hence repeating the test. This is common with titer evaluation. Many other concomitant tests need to be performed to rule out any disease such as family history and signs that are consistent with abnormal physiology. That is why they take many blood samples so they can repeat the tests without having to re-draw. Everything looks pretty good but I would have the tests repeated, without knowing why you had these tests done or what symptoms prompted them, I can only speculate on their necessity. Since these diseases are fairly rare and have no effective cure, only steroidal treatment, I would also get a thorough food allergy panel as well. This is the most common overlooked cause of unconventional symptoms people suffer from and rarely get properly diagnosed. If the blood work is in fact faulty, look into an IgG and IgA food allergy blood panel for peace of mind. If there are any other complex issues that may arise in the future, please feel free to contact me and I will be happy to guide you to the proper treatment or specialist.
Good Luck!
