Pain in the joints of my toes

Question
Hi, I'm 50 yrs old and have had three surges on the lower part of my back. That was 12yrs ago, in the last couple of mths I have had a lot of pain in the joints of most of my toes. It doesn't matter what shoes I wear. If I walk a lot it can get worst. I've ask my doctor about it and he say it is because of the surges. I have a disc degeneration of the spine. In 1997 I had two disc at the L5 S1 levels clasp an pinch off the nerves to my lower parts of my body. Would this be some thing that would cause the joint pain? Thanks Thomas

Answer
Thomas,

It could, the nerves to the lower legs and feet are affected by this area. Realistically, if this is the case you should see more than your toes effected and most likely see some numbness in the feet as well.

I hope your doctor did some diagnostic tests. It would be a good idea to rule out arthritis or gout and not just assume the connection with the previous surgeries and your current pain.
