QuestionMy right shoulder dislocates very easily. After the MRI, the doctor said I have hyperelasticity of the ligaments and recommended surgery. But with the MRI it showed that I also have this in my left shoulder. Bilateral hips also dislocate very easily. I am only 27. I am wondering if this is rare. I can not seem to find any information on the subject. Am I looking at having an operation a joint at a time? Is there any therapy that I can do to help prevent all these surgeries?
AnswerDear Blondie
I really found your post interesting in that your feel that bi-lateral hips dislocate very easily. I have had hip replacements since I was 16 and I am now 45. I can be honest and tell you, yes, I have dislocated many, many times, but the the dislocations were due to the hip replacement getting old, or failing. Otherwise most hips are really stable.
Now to your problem, If I were you, I'd ask for a second opinion, and then have your doctor refer you as an outpatient for physical therapy. The bones do stay in place better when the muscles and ligaments are strong, so I would think if you go them stronger you would be preventing problems before they start. I do think regardless, you need to get a second opinion.
I have no experience with shoulder dislocations. I wish I could help you, but this area is really out of my expertise.
Good luck to you.
