QuestionHi
I had my left shoulder dislocated 20 days back. I just removed my bandages after my physician told me. This was the second time that my shoulder got dislocated. Last time it was 5 yrs ago while throwing a ball. This time apparently for no reason as I stretched my hand while waking up from the bed.
People have advised me to keep the bandage for atleast 5 weeks, however my doc told me to remove it within 2.5 weeks and showed me the 'restricted' movements to carry out for 1 month.
What is the ideal time for a complete healing of the muscles of shoulder?
AnswerHi,
It's important to follow the doctor's recommendations closely. If you were to leave the arm totally still for 5 weeks, the soft tissues would not heal properly. After the soft tissue have a chance to begin to heal, the gentle and limited movements your doctor described to you will help them heal more normally (and not in a shortened/tight position). If you have any questions, ask your doctor again, or ask for a few sessions with a physical or occupational therapist to help get you established on your program. Take care!
