QuestionHi I'm 18 years old, and this incident happened last year. The bone on my right hand between the ring finger and wrist broked because I stupidly punched the wall. The doctor never aligned it so it doesn't look normal you can see a bump, and I'm missing the ring knuckle when holding a fist. haha well my main concern is if there is any treatment such as surgery to fix it or make it look normal? The way I see it possible is for them to break the bone and align it, whether doctors actually do this or not I would like to know. Thanks in advance
AnswerHi Jesse,
Yes, I have heard of physicians breaking bones and re-aligning them. However, they usually base part of their decision on whether or not making the bone straightor will improve your function/use. If it is only for cosmetic reasons, they will probably talk to a lot about the risks involved and see if you really want to take those risks. If it is hurting you or interfering with your ability to use it, they may be more willing to do that, or to explore other treatment options (bracing/splinting, etc).
Also, whether or not you are still growing will have an impact on their decision, because the shape of the bone once you stop growing may be different than it is now. By all means, though, talk to your doctor about it and see what the options are. It never hurts to ask!
Take care!
