QuestionDear Adam,
I was wondering if I would benefit from using an inversion table... (or at least I think that's what it's called).
I'm talking about those tables where you're tied from your ankles to "hang" upside down.
I work long hours bent over and am experiencing some pain in my back. It's not an injury, per se, but I was told that the inversion table would help. Just wanted to get some solid advice about it.
By the way, I work out about 3 times a week and do strength training ... so I wouldn't think I'm out of shape.
Thank you for your time and answer in advance.
AnswerI am not aware of any good studies looking into the effectiveness of inversion tables. This is a form of traction and the evidence on traction is mixed. I do use traction in my clinic for certain problems and it can be very effective.
A colleague of mine is using an inversion table along with spinal stabilization and says he gets good results. I do not use an inversion table at my office so I have no personal experience with it.
