About 3 months ago, my 14 yr old son decided to pick up my 26 yr old daughter.  Picking her up wasn't a problem.  But putting her down, he said he felt something "tear" on the side of his neck.  At first it was swollen, but started to go down.  Now there are two kind of hard lumps there that you can see when he tilts his head to the side and stretches out the neck.  Could this be torn muscle or legament?

It is uncommon to tear a neck muscle, especially in a 14 year old. It can happen but I have never seen one.  This can not be diagnosed over the internet and you should bring your son to a medical professional for a diagnosis.
