Does the toe need to casted or is buddy taping enough. As well how long should running, physical activity be limited

If the fracture of the fourth toe involves any part of the growth plate, or is unstable-may need to be casted. If the position of the toe is good & stable & does not involve the growth plate-then strapping & a supportive shoe may be adequate. Limit activity at least 2 weeks & let pain (as you observe as a parent) dictate the amount of activity. There should be no pain-otherwise it means there is movement at the fracture site-which delays healing.
