QuestionI have recently been told I have a ganglian cyst in my right ankle the. Cyst has gradually increased in size over the last few months. After various visits to the doctor they have now agreed to do an ultrasound scan. Please could you help inform me of what questions to ask and what the likely outcome will be if the ganglian refuses to dissipate.
AnswerHelen
In most cases ganglion cysts are painless and no treatment is indicated. Sometimes they can push on other structures and cause pain. They can be removed with surgery but they often come back.
I would ask if they expect it to cause a problem and ask what the risks and benefits are of treatment vs no treatment.
